Summer ARTventures Filling Up!
The countdown to summer is on, and now is the time to plan to make it the summer of fun for your children. What better way to do that than to stimulate their creativity with exciting sessions at Summer ArtVentures Creative Kids Camp at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET)? This year’s line-up of week-long courses, from June 14 through July 16, is as exciting as ever, including mural painting, whimsical art, figure drawing and much more, all taught by professional artists.
ArtVentures is offered Monday through Friday with two workshops per day: morning classes are from 9 a.m. to noon; afternoons are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Children ages 4-14 choose from many class options for a high quality, intensive art education experience. All courses are taught by professional artists, and the participants work closely with these respected artists in a variety of mediums.
Campers are divided into three age groups, with each course designed for age-appropriate art activities:
* Young ArtVenturers – children ages 4-6 – will use all the materials the big kids use such as clay, paint, colored pens, pencils and pastels to learn the basis of creating art through fun activities. Their activities will be on a level appropriate for their age. Classes are also augmented with art-related stories and outdoor activities.
* ArtVenturers – children ages 7-12 – have many exciting courses to choose from including the popular clay courses, drawing, mural painting and more.
* TeenVentures in Art – Keep your teens active and engaged in making art, which is a life skill. TeenVentures in Art is a special week, June 28 through July 2, just for 11 to 14-year-olds interested in exploring new avenues with new materials in art. The courses will allow the aspiring artists to learn figure drawing and painting landscapes from professional artists in those techniques.
“Summer ArtVentures is a great camp for kids and teens interested in art to learn from professional artists while making their own artwork to show off to their parents,” said AMSET Curator of Education Sandi Laurette.
The cost for Summer ArtVentures is $75 for members, $110 for non-members for the first child’s first class, $75 for each additional child and then $70 for each additional class. Scholarships are also available.
