Craft Houses
Craft Houses. Craft Malls. Casa de Craft.
a.k.a. Shops filled with homemade creations or treasured finds by people much more creative than I.
Some of our favorite shops in the Golden Triangle & why:
11th Street Market- The owners are so stinkin' nice & we generally want at least 1 item (if not much more) from every vendor in there!
The Rustic Door- Hotsie Totsie Baby Co.
Ashton House- This place is bow heaven. And Yellow Box heaven.
Many vendors within these shops are hosting Labor Day sales. Shop & save :)

It's August. Already.
Yes, we are just now at the conclusion that it is August. And, it's been August for 9, almost 10, days now.
Where? How? Ugh.
When it says "we," I mean me. Have you ever been curious how beaumontbuzz got started or who runs it? And WHY HAS IT BEEN SINCE JULY 20 THAT SOMETHING HAS BEEN WRITTEN?!?!?
Rewind to 5 years ago. I was working in ad sales at the Beaumont Enterprise. I was working and... expecting my first child. After his arrival, I wanted to stay at home with him so badly it hurt! But, our bills weren't going anywhere, so I had to find some way to work. Enter a good friend who opened a maternity boutique in Beaumont. Said friend needed someone to help run the store. Aha! Yes, I'll work for you just a few days a week AND bring my baby with me! This was right up my alley.
I began to take on the marketing for the store. I talked with other business owners about marketing their own stores. I met lots of women with lots of questions about being a woman in Southeast Texas. Know of a good restaurant? Know where I can get my nails done? Who are the good doctors? I saw a need that was unfulfilled. We- SETX women- needed an online resource for all of these burning, life- changing, where-can-I-get-my-hair-did questions.
So, with zero knowledge about how to run a website, I started one. I mean, I have a degree in Journalism. I studied Advertising. And, I minored in Art. No idea how they let me in that program. Anyway.
I'd work during the day at the store, evening duties, put the kid to bed, and work beaumontbuzz late at night. I'd wake early in the morning to work. Work at store during day. Do evening duties. Put kid to bed. Work late at night. Have I mentioned yet that I'm married, too? Somewhere in the mix of this, he was a student at Lamar and worked two jobs.
All that was 3 kids ago. Yes, I've had 4 kids in 5 years. And, yes, I know "what causes that."
I could let you marvel at the mom that runs the website and has all those kids at home. Or, I could be real with you, my treasured readers, and tell you that it is hard! Some days are too crazy. My oldest child starts kindergarten in a few weeks. Do you know what it's like to try and take a professional phone call with FOUR PRESCHOOLERS in the room?!?! Lord knows they play fine until you get on the phone. Then they ALL need something right-this-very-minute-or-their-head-will-explode. If you've ever stumbled upon one of my Live at Five appearances, I promise you that I am wearing something with some sort of bodily function (i.e. "my shirt is NOT a tissue!") on it.
I lead a very. very. very glamorous life.
You either think I'm nuts (join the club) or.... you can relate.
It's the latter that I've decided to share all this with you today. I consider beaumontbuzz readers to be my friends. And don't friends know at least a little bit about each other? You will see a few changes in the content on beaumontbuzz in the future. Everything will still be local- local events, businesses, things to do, etc. But, I will begin to write them from a little more personal perspective. Hey, why don't you write some things, too? If you have a little somethin' somethin' you want to say about a great experience you had somewhere local, just email it to me.
Is that ok with you?
P.S. I would be lost forever in mounds of laundry (Thank You, Lord, for clothes), dishes (Thanks for the eaten food), dollhouses (Thank You for little peeps to play with) and can-you-fix-me-a-snack-for-the-100th-time-today requests (Thank You, Lord, for providing!) if it were not for FACEBOOK! Link up with beaumontbuzz here.
And... Thanks for reading!Labels: beaumontbuzz
