Very close to becoming a need...

When you stare at something you want long enough,  you start to convince yourself it's a need. Take these rings made by Jen, for example. Jen's company is called A Blond and a Torch. She creates her metal adornments right here in Southeast Texas. Jen describes her jewelry as "simple and organic, yet elegant."

I do believe these rings (in photo) would look fantastic on my finger. But then again, so would these, these, or this one.

To see more work from Jen, visit her online shop.

Free stuff + local businesses + facebook = well, free stuff from local businesses on facebook.

Facebook is as common as having a phone number. {Nearly} Everyone's on it. People can befriend each other and businesses can be "liked" by anyone and everyone. Businesses will go to great lengths to be liked by you... including giving away free goodies.

Without further ado, here is a contest you should participate in right this very second:

Fall Festivals

Trick-or-Treating just isn't the same for our kids as it was for us.  Is the neighborhood safe? What about strangers? If your family opts out on trick-or-treating, you may want to know about some fun alternatives that still include a kid's favorite Halloween activities- candy + costumes.

Most area "Fall Festivals" include games, costumes, candy, and hay in some form (either spots for pics or a real life hayride!). Some even include food and contests.
Some festivals we trust are safe and fun for you take place at...
  • Wesley United Methodist Church located at Major Dr & Folsom in Beaumont. Festival takes place at their pumpkin patch! Festival is October 31 at 5 pm.
  • First Baptist Church of Sour Lake. Local community is welcome! Festival features games for kids and a dunking booth! Festival is October 31 from 6-8 pm. ** Sour Lake Volunteer Fire Department will be offering hayrides on October 30 from dark til late!
  • Trunk or Treat at Dishman Elementary, 3475 Champions Drive in Beaumont, (provided by First Baptist Church of Beaumont)- October 31 from 5:30 -7 pm.
Send us your fall festivals & we'll spread the word.

Getting Ready For Christmas

Did we say "ready," "for," and "Christmas" in the same sentence already? Some shops already have Christmas trees up, so we had probably go ahead and start discussing how you should get ready for the pending celebration!

Three things to get you started:
  • Clean out closets to make way for new gifts! AND... make a little cash. Consider consigning your closet finds. If you are ridding yourself of some gently used baby/ children's items, Company E Children's Consignment Boutique is now accepting new consigners. You earn 40% on the items you bring in. Company E is located on Calder in Beaumont near New York Pizza.
  • Order cute shirts for your kids' Christmas photo! Hotsie Totsie Baby Co. creates one-of-a-kind outifts, specializing in custom applique. (We just got our first order for our kids.... eeeek! Sooo cute!)
  • Book a photographer that is not only talented at capturing your family's memories, but also creates cards (Christmas, baby announcements, etc.). We recommend Sarah e. Evans, Mandy Bonds, and Haute Photography!

Buzz Business Review: Hadley's Furniture

In Southeast Texas, furniture shops are like churches. There's one on every corner.

My husband and I recently were in the market for a new mattress. I didn't really know where to go since it's not every day that I shop for a mattress! I asked several friends for their recommendations and I heard "Hadley's" several times. So, to Hadley's we went!

Hadley's had been advertising a "huge" mattress sale for Labor Day weekend, so we decided that would be the weekend we'd shop for our new dreamland. I did not, however, dream we'd shop for said mattress with our four we-love-to jump-on-mattresses-monkey-children! Since we had them with us, this is how the Hadley's experience went:

I walked into Hadley's alone (left husband and kids in the car). Was greeted by Hector, a sales associate, who promptly asked what I was looking for that day. I quickly told him about the mattress and that I had my husband/kids in the car. "Gotta make this quick," I informed him. Hector asked me a few questions about my sleeping habits and then showed me the mattresses that would do best according to my answers. I picked out four of my favorites, told Hector to remember them, and then left the store.

Sent in husband. Alone.

Dear Hector remembered exactly what I picked out and gave the husband the rundown. Sent husband back outside.

Husband tells me which of the four he liked best, but tells me I can pick whichever one I wanted (see why I married him?!?!).

I go back inside and, in true big-purchase-shopping fashion, freaked out a little and told Hector I needed to think about it. "No problem, here's my card," said Hector.

All in all, we were there about 15 minutes. My kind of mattress shopping. By the end of the day I had decided 2 things:
  • I was gonna buy a mattress from Hadley's because the "huge" mattress sale was indeed huge and we couldn't pass up the great deal we were offered (which not only included a substantial discount, but also a free mattress cover and free delivery).
  • I heart Hector the Salesman. I said I was short on time. He was quick. I needed to be educated on the selection. He was informative. I needed a good deal. He gave me one. I didn't feel pressure to buy, but did because of the great service and prices!
The great customer service didn't stop with Hector. The delivery crew was helpful (moved the old mattress to the garage for us!), punctual, and courteous.

Hadley's Furniture earned our business... give them a chance to earn yours, too! Now, there's only one more thing you need to hear from me... GOOD NIGHT!
