With the questionable economy and
constantly rising prices, it seems nearly impossible to stay afloat financially
these days. But the Fowler family of Lumberton lives comfortably on less than
$50 per week.
On Saturday,
March 10 from 1-3:30 p.m., Courtney Fowler will share her personal low-cost
solutions to surviving — and saving — in tough economic times at Divine on a
Dime seminar at Friendship Baptist Church, 6750 Highway 105 in Beaumont.
“I was standing
in line at the grocery store waiting to check out, mentally adding up the total
cost of the items in my cart when I realized I was spending way too much,”
Fowler said. Like most families, the Fowlers regularly spent more than $100 for
less than a week’s worth of groceries.
Fowler studied
smart buying techniques, eventually whittling down the weekly cost of her
groceries to less than $50 per week — without clipping coupons or scrimping on
nutrition.
“My family has food allergies, and
specialized diet foods can be pretty expensive,” said Fowler. “So, I checked
out budget books and researched online to find what works, and what will also
allow us to stay healthy. I want to share what I’ve learned so that others can
know that it is possible to live comfortably in times like these.”
The
$5 cost to attend the seminar. Guests
to make their own household cleaners to try at home. Attendees must register
before March 7. For more information or to R.S.V.P., call 409-898-0249 or email
